Eyes: The Tragedy of Yazan Kafarneh

His eyes were pure

Big eyelashes with innocent stare
His eyes gave the look of
Being unsure

If there are still people
Left to care
Care about him

And children in the thousands
Who are slowly starving to death
How are people being complacent
How can this ever make any sense?

Hours, days, and weeks passed
His face turned into a living skeleton

With life slowly slipping by
His eyes sank ever so deep
With no more tears left to cry

His eyes got fixated
Shocked and stiff
Staring at humanity
With utter disbelief!

My eyes never saw his face

My eyes leave
Painful images behind
My curtained eyes
Are always shamefully blind!
