Prophet Muhammad reminds us,  "There are two of God's favors that are forgotten by many people: health and free time." As the year comes to an end and we start a new year, the following verses of the Quran reflect on the importance of time.

Your Guardian Lord is God, Who created the heavens and the earth in six eons and is firmly established on the throne (of authority). He covers the night as a veil over the day, each seeking the other in swift succession: He created the sun, the moon, and the stars, (all) governed by laws under His command. Is it not His to create and to govern? Blessed be God, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds! - (Quran 7:54)

The number of months in the sight of God is twelve (in a year) - so ordained by Him the day He created the heavens and the earth; of them, four are sacred: this is the ever-true law [of God]. So wrong not yourselves therein, and combat the Pagans all together as they fight you all together. But know that God is with those who restrain themselves. - (Quran 9:36)

Are they, then, not aware that they are being tested year-in, year-out? And yet, they do not repent and nor do they learn a lesson (from it). - (Quran 9:126)

He it is Who made the sun a shining brightness and the moon a light, and ordained for it phases that you might know the computation of years and the reckoning [of time]. God did not create it but with truth; He makes the signs manifest for people who have knowledge. - (Quran 10:5)

We have made the Night and the Day as two (of Our) Signs: the Sign of the Night have We obscured, while the Sign of the Day We have made to enlighten you; that ye may seek bounty from your Lord, and that ye may know the number and count of the years: all things have We explained in detail. - (Quran 17:12)

He will say: "What number of years did ye stay on earth?"  They will answer: 'We have spent there a day, or part of a day; but ask those who [are able to] count [time]..." He will say: "You stayed not but a little- if you had only known!  Did you, then, think that We created you in mere idle play and that you would not have to return to Us?."  - (Quran 23:112-115)

By (the Token of) Time (through the ages), Verily Humankind is in loss, Except such as have Faith, and do righteous deeds, and (join together) in the mutual teaching of Truth, and of Patience and Constancy. - (Quran 103:1-3)

Time is running very fast so we should take advantage of the time which Allah has given every one ie 24 hours at our disposal wether rich or poor .So 2011 came and went away forever and we have just entered 2012. May Allah bring Peace Prosperity and Hidayah to the entire mankind so as to make preparation for the real life which is the Hereafter. We should not be deceived by the glitters of this world which is only an illusion and deception deceiving so many without realising the purpose of life.Unfortunately majority of us don't understand the purpose for which we are created we are not here to stay forever we are on journey instead we should prepare for the life hereafter which is the reality the inevitable death which every one has to face.May Allah accept our ibadah and make us become the means of guidance to the entire mankind so as to invite the humanity towards good and forbid them from evil making us the best Ummah the title given to us Khairah Ummatin Ukhrijat Linnas.

Yes.. I know Allah has created the Seen and Unseen World and study of Science is not the domain of any one society/religion

Solar New Year is part of the celebrations which start on Winter Solstice to remember the pagan-god. There was a very good article on this topic in islamicity.com.

My point is: Why do Muslims need to remember Qur'an verses as we 'start a new year'. As Muslims we need to remember Allah, Quran, prophet Muhammad (pbuh) all the time.

Allah has created the Sun and the Moon through which we can measure various
things including time. The use of astronomy and any other science is not the domain
of any religion. It is there as a sign for all people. One of these days when people
live on Mars they might measure time some other way. Happy Solar & Lunar New
Year!

From what I understand, this is an Islamic site. What exactly is the Islamic significance of Christian New Year such that we need to reflect on these verses at this time !!!!

The Islamic New Year started some time ago... yet this author did not post these verses at that time. The author states we have to remember these beautiful verses at a time which is essentially to celebrate a pagan (Saturnalia) god !!

Almost everyone knows we have just entered new Year 2011,but how many of our Muslim brothers and sisters know that we have been in new Hijira 1432 for over three weeks? It is all for us to reflect by becoming more serious on our Deen.We should make new resolution in this new Year and our Beloved Hijira of Rasulullah by obeying Allah all the times and follow the Sunnah of our Beloved Rasulullah avoiding disobedience of Allah and Rasul which may likely bring the Wrath of Allah in Duniya and Akhirah.May Allah give us taufiq to do good amaals that may bring His Pleasure in this Short life of Duniya and the everlasting Success in the Life Hereafter.
