Sahih Muslim 969a, 969b (Book 11, Hadith 120) #9390
The Importance of Obliterating Images and Levelling High Graves

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of obliterating images and levelling high graves.

Abu'l-Hayyaj al-Asadi told that 'Ali (b. Abu Talib) said to him: Should I not send you on the same mission as Allah's Messenger sent me? Do not leave an image without obliterating it, or a high grave without levelling It. This hadith has been reported by Habib with the same chain of transmitters and he said: (Do not leave) a picture without obliterating it.

QUICK LESSONS:
Erase images & Level high graves .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is narrated by Abu'l-Hayyaj al-Asadi who was told by 'Ali b. Abu Talib that Allah's Messenger sent him on a mission to erase images and level high graves. Images are pictures or statues that are made in the likeness of living things such as humans or animals. High graves refer to tombs that have been built up higher than the ground level which is not allowed in Islam. It is important to erase these images because it goes against Islamic teachings as it can lead people to worship them instead of Allah alone. It is also important to level high graves because it shows respect for those who have passed away and prevents people from worshipping them instead of Allah too.
