How to Pray Properly and Calmly

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) taught a man how to pray properly and calmly.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Once the Prophet entered the mosque, a man came in, offered the prayer and greeted the Prophet. The Prophet returned his greeting and said to him, "Go back and pray again for you have not prayed". The man offered the prayer again, came back and greeted the Prophet. He said to him thrice, "Go back and pray again for you have not prayed". The man said, "By Him Who has sent you with the truth! I do not know a better way of praying. Kindly teach Me how to pray". He said, "When you stand for the prayer, say Takbir and then recite from the Qur'an what you know and then bow with calmness till you feel at ease, then rise from bowing till you stand straight. Afterwards prostrate calmly till you feel at ease and then raise (your head) and sit with Calmness till you feel at ease and then prostrate with calmness till you feel at ease in prostration and do the same in the whole of your prayer".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of prayer in Islam. It was narrated by Abu Huraira, who said that once the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ entered the mosque, he saw a man praying. The Prophet ﷺ asked him to pray again as he had not done it correctly. The man asked for guidance on how to pray properly, so the Prophet ﷺ instructed him on how to do it with calmness and concentration. He told him that when standing for prayer, one should recite from the Qur’an what they know before bowing down until they feel at ease, then rise up until standing straight again before prostrating until feeling at ease in prostration and repeating this throughout their prayer. This hadith teaches us that we should take our time while praying and focus on each part of our prayer with calmness so we can get closer to Allah SWT through our prayers.
