Sahih al-Bukhari 702 (Book 10, Hadith 97) #677
Shorten Prayers for the Weak, Old and Needy

SUMMARY: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) advised that the leader of prayer should shorten it as there are weak, old and needy people among them.

Narrated Abu Mas'ud: A man came and said, "O Allah's Messenger ! By Allah, I keep away from the morning prayer only because So and so prolongs the prayer when he leads us in it". The narrator said, "I never saw Allah's Apostle more furious in giving advice than he was at that time. He then said, "Some of you make people dislike good deeds (the prayer). So whoever among you leads the people in prayer should shorten it because among them are the weak, the old and the needy".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be considerate towards those with weaker physical abilities during religious activities such as prayers.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of shortening prayers when leading others in prayer. It was narrated by Abu Mas’ud who said that a man came to Allah's Messenger and complained that someone was prolonging the prayer when they led it. The Prophet became very angry at this news and advised that whoever leads people in prayer should shorten it as there are weak, old and needy people among them who cannot stand for long periods of time. This hadith teaches us to be considerate towards those who may not have the same physical strength or ability as us, especially during religious activities such as prayers. We must remember to be mindful of their needs so they can also benefit from these activities without feeling overwhelmed or uncomfortable.
