Sahih al-Bukhari 703 (Book 10, Hadith 98) #678
Shortening Prayers for the Weak

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that when leading a prayer, it should be shortened to accommodate those who are weak, sick or old. However, if praying alone, one can prolong the prayer as much as they wish.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger said, "If anyone of you leads the people in the prayer, he should shorten it for amongst them are the weak, the sick and the old; and if anyone among your prays alone then he may prolong (the prayer) as much as he wishes".

QUICK LESSONS:
Lead prayers with consideration towards those who are weak, sick or old by shortening them accordingly ; Be patient with yourself and your physical limitations ; Show gratitude towards Allah SWT by performing your prayers regularly .

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that when leading a prayer in congregation, it should be shortened to accommodate those who are weak, sick or old. This is because these people may not have the strength to stand for long periods of time and may become uncomfortable during longer prayers. However, if one is praying alone then they can prolong their prayer as much as they wish since there is no need to worry about accommodating others in this case. This hadith teaches us that we must always be considerate of others and think of their comfort before our own desires. We must also remember that Allah SWT will reward us for our good deeds regardless of how long we pray for and so we should not feel discouraged if we cannot pray for extended periods of time due to physical limitations or other reasons.
