The Benefits of Spending Surplus

SUMMARY: Spending the surplus is better than retaining it, and one should spend on their dependents first.

Abu Umamah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah said, "O son of Adam, if you spend the surplus, it will be better for you; and if you retain it, it will be evil for you. You will not be reprimanded for storing what is enough for your need. First of all spend upon those who are your dependents". At- Tirmidhi, who classified it as Hadith Hasan Sahih.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith encourages us to spend our surplus, or extra money, on those who are dependent on us. It teaches us that spending our extra money is better than keeping it for ourselves. We should prioritize spending on our dependents first before anything else. This hadith also reminds us that we will not be reprimanded for storing what is enough for our need. Therefore, we should not be wasteful with our money but instead use it in a way that benefits others and ourselves.
