Riyad as-Salihin 1335 (Book 11, Hadith 51) #37824
The Rewards of Archery

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the rewards of archery and how it is a great blessing. It encourages people to practice archery and not neglect it.

'Uqbah bin 'Amir Al-Juhani (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah saying, "Allah will admit three persons to Jannah for one arrow; the maker who has a good motive in making it, the one who shoots it, and the one who hands it up for shooting. So shoot and ride, but I like your shooting (more) than your riding. He who gives up archery after becoming adept in it for lack of interest, neglects a (great) blessing". (Or said,) "One who does so is ungrateful". Abu Dawud.

Practice Archery with good intentions

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the rewards of practicing archery. It was narrated by Uqbah bin 'Amir Al-Juhani who heard the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ say that Allah will admit three persons to Jannah for one arrow; the maker who has a good motive in making it, the one who shoots it, and the one who hands it up for shooting. The Prophet ﷺ also said that he likes shooting more than riding, and those who give up archery after becoming adept in it for lack of interest are ungrateful. This hadith teaches us that we should be grateful for all our blessings, including skills such as archery which can bring us closer to Allah's pleasure if practiced with good intentions. We should also strive to make use of our talents and skills in order to gain rewards from Allah SWT.
