Sahih al-Bukhari 3720 (Book 62, Hadith 68) #3551
Serving Allah's Messenger (ﷺ): The Story of Az-Zubair

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) sending Az-Zubair to Bani Quraiza and praising him for his service.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Az-Zubair: During the battle of Al-Ahzab, I and 'Umar bin Abi-Salama were kept behind with the women. Behold! I saw (my father) Az-Zubair riding his horse, going to and coming from Bani Quraiza twice or thrice. So when I came back I said, "O my father! I saw you going to and coming from Bani Quraiza?" He said, "Did you really see me, O my son?" I said, "Yes". He said, "Allah's Messenger said, 'Who will go to Bani Quraiza and bring me their news?' So I went, and when I came back, Allah's Apostle mentioned for me both his parents saying, "Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you"'.

QUICK LESSONS:

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's appreciation for those who serve him. It tells the story of 'Abdullah bin Az Zubair and his father who were both present during the battle of Al Ahzab. During this battle, Abdullah saw his father going to and from Bani Quraiza twice or thrice. When he asked what he was doing there he found out that it was because Allah's Messenger had asked someone to go to Bani Quraiza and bring back news. His father volunteered for this task and when he returned with news from them Allah's Messenger praised him by saying "Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you". This shows us how much value the Prophet placed on those who served him in any way they could. It also teaches us that we should always strive to do our best in whatever tasks we are given so that we can receive similar praise from Allah himself!
