Seeking Forgiveness and Repentance

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) sought forgiveness from Allah and repented to Him seventy times each day.

It was narrated from Sa'eed bin Abu Burdah bin Abu Musa, from his father, that : his grandfather said: "The Messenger of Allah (SAWS) said: 'I seek the forgiveness of Allah and repent to Him seventy times each day'."
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ بْنِ أَبِي الْحُرِّ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ بْنِ أَبِي مُوسَى، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏ "‏ إِنِّي لأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ فِي الْيَوْمِ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of seeking forgiveness and repentance from Allah. It was narrated by Sa'eed bin Abu Burdah bin Abu Musa, from his father, that his grandfather said that the Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) said "I seek the forgiveness of Allah and repent to Him seventy times each day." This shows us how important it is for us to seek forgiveness for our sins and repent to Allah in order to be closer to Him. We should strive every day to ask for His mercy and grace so that we can be forgiven for our wrongdoings. Additionally, this hadith also teaches us about the importance of prayer as a means of connecting with God on a daily basis. Through prayer we can express our gratitude towards God as well as ask for His guidance in all aspects of life.
