Asking Forgiveness for Harsh Speech

SUMMARY: The Prophet (SAWS) advised Hudhaifah to ask Allah for forgiveness seventy times a day if he was harsh in the way he spoke to his family.

It was narrated that Hudhaifah said: "I was harsh in the way I spoke to my family, but not to others. I mentioned that to the Prophet (SAWS) and he said: 'Why don't you ask for forgiveness? Ask Allah to forgive you, seventy times each day'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Ask Allah for forgiveness when you make mistakes or do something wrong; Be mindful of your words & actions; Turn back towards God with humility & sincerity when seeking repentance; Remember that God will always forgive you if you sincerely repent .

EXPLANATIONS:
It is narrated that Hudhaifah once told the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that he had been harsh in the way he spoke to his family. In response, the Prophet advised him to ask Allah for forgiveness, or Istighfar, seventy times each day. This means that whenever we make a mistake or do something wrong, we should remember to seek repentance from Allah and ask Him for forgiveness. We can do this by saying Dhikr such as “Astaghfirullah” which means “I seek forgiveness from Allah”. This Hadith teaches us that it is important to always be mindful of our words and actions and not take them lightly as they can have an effect on those around us. We should also remember that no matter how many mistakes we make, Allah will always forgive us if we sincerely repent and turn back towards Him with humility and sincerity.
