The Reward of Lending

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ borrowed money from a man and when he returned it, he was rewarded with words of paradise.

Isma'il bin Abi Rabi'ah Al-Makhzumi narrated from his father, from his grandfather, that : the Prophet borrowed thirty or forty thousand from him, when he fought at Hunain. When he came back he paid the loan, then the Prophet said to him: 'May Allah (SWT) bless your family and your wealth for you. The reward for lending is repayment and words of paradise".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be generous in lending and patient when expecting repayment.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the reward for lending. It tells us that if we lend something to someone, we should expect repayment in return. However, the Prophet Muhammad also taught us that there is an even greater reward for lending than just repayment; it is the words of paradise. This means that if we lend something to someone and they repay us, then Allah will bless our family and wealth as well as give us words of paradise. This teaches us that not only should we be generous in lending but also be patient when expecting repayment because Allah will reward those who are generous with their time and resources.
