Prostrations for Forgetfulness

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ performed two prostrations for forgetfulness after he had finished his prayer and before saying the salam.

It was narrated from 'Abdur-Rahman Al-A’raj that Ibn Buhainah told him that the Prophet stood up in the second Rak’ah of Zuhr and forgot to sit. When he had finished his prayer, and before he said the Salam, he performed the two prostrations for forgetfulness (Sahw) and said the Salam.

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform two prostrations for forgetfullness after finishing your prayer
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of performing two prostrations for forgetfulness after finishing a prayer. It was narrated from 'Abdur-Rahman Al-Araj that Ibn Buhainah told him that the Prophet stood up in the second Rakah of Zuhr and forgot to sit. When he had finished his prayer, and before he said the Salam, he performed two prostrations for forgetfulness and then said the Salam. This teaches us that if we make a mistake or forget something during our prayers, we should perform two prostrations for forgetfulness afterwards as an act of repentance. It also shows us how important it is to be mindful during our prayers so that we don't miss any part of it or make any mistakes.
