The Power of Eloquence

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) warned people against the power of eloquent speech, saying that it can be like magic.

Ibn 'Umar narrated that two men arrived during the time of the Messenger of Allah delivering an address. The people were amazed by their speech, so the Messenger of Allah turned to us and said: "Indeed there is magic in eloquence'-or- 'Indeed some eloquence is magic'."

This hadith is about the power of eloquent speech. It was narrated by Ibn 'Umar, who was a companion of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). In this hadith, two men arrived and delivered an address to the people. Everyone was amazed by their words and so the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) warned them against being taken in by such powerful words. He said that some eloquence can be like magic, meaning that it has a powerful effect on people's minds and hearts. This hadith teaches us to be careful when listening to speeches or addresses from others as they may not always have our best interests at heart. We should also strive to use our own words carefully when speaking with others so as not to manipulate them with our words or take advantage of them in any way.
