Sunan Abi Dawud 4784 (Book 43, Hadith 12) #25075
Extinguishing the Fire of Anger

SUMMARY: When one gets angry, they should perform ablution to extinguish the fire of anger.

Narrated Atiyyah as-Sa'di: AbuWa'il al-Qass said: We entered upon Urwah ibn Muhammad ibn as-Sa'di. A man spoke to him and made him angry. So he stood and performed ablution; he then returned and performed ablution, and said: My father told me on the authority of my grandfather Atiyyah who reported the Messenger of Allah as saying: Anger comes from the devil, the devil was created of fire, and fire is extinguished only with water; so when one of you becomes angry, he should perform ablution.

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform Ablution when you get angry

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how to deal with anger. It was narrated by Atiyyah as-Sa'di who heard it from AbuWa'il al-Qass who heard it from Urwah ibn Muhammad ibn as-Sa'di who heard it from his father on the authority of his grandfather Atiyyah who reported that the Messenger of Allah said that when one gets angry, they should perform ablution in order to extinguish the fire of their anger. The hadith explains that anger comes from the devil and can be extinguished with water which is why performing ablution is recommended when one gets angry. This teaches us to take a moment and cool off before we act out in our anger so we don't do something we regret later on.
