The Night Prayer of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to pray thirteen rak'ahs during the night and two light rak'ahs of prayer when he heard the call to the dawn prayer.

Narrated 'Aishah: The Messenger of Allah used to pray thirteen rak'ahs during the night ; he then offered two light rak'ahs of prayer when he heard the call to the dawn prayer.
حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ ‏:‏ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يُصَلِّي بِاللَّيْلِ ثَلاَثَ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً، ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي إِذَا سَمِعَ النِّدَاءَ بِالصُّبْحِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about the night prayer of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. He used to pray thirteen rak’ahs during the night and then offer two light rak’ahs of prayer when he heard the call for dawn prayer. A rak’ah is a unit of Islamic prayers which consists of standing, bowing, prostrating and sitting in between two prostrations. Muslims are encouraged to follow this example set by our beloved prophet in order to gain rewards from Allah Almighty. It is also important for Muslims to perform their five daily prayers on time so that they can stay connected with Allah throughout their day and seek His guidance in all matters.
