The Prophet's Night Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ used to pray thirteen rak'ahs during the night, including eight rak'ahs with one rak'ah for witr prayer and two rak'ahs after witr prayer in sitting position. He also prayed two rak'ahs between the call to the dawn prayer and the iqamah.

Narrated 'Aishah: The Prophet used to pray thirteen rak'ahs during the night. He would offer eight rak'ahs observing the witr with one rak'ah. Then he prayed (the narrator Muslim said) two rak'ahs after witr prayer in sitting position. When he wished to bow, he stood up and bowed. He used to pray two rak'ahs between the call to the dawn prayer and the iqamah.

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray regularly throughout each day & night .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of how the Prophet Muhammad used to pray thirteen rak'ahs during the night. A single unit of prayer is called a ‘rak’ah, so thirteen of them would be quite a lot! He would offer eight of these as part of his witr prayer, which is an extra voluntary prayer that Muslims can do at night. After this he would sit down and offer two more in what is known as tashahuud position - this means sitting with your legs folded up underneath you. Then he would stand up again and bow for another two before finally saying his salutations or salams at the end. In addition to this, he also prayed two more between when they called out for people to come for dawn prayers and when they said it was time to start praying them together as a congregation or jamaat. This shows us how important it was for him to pray regularly throughout each day and night, even if it was just by himself without anyone else around him!

The Prophet Muhammad taught us that we should strive hard in our worship of Allah by offering regular prayers throughout each day and night - even if we are alone or not able to join others in congregational prayers due to circumstances beyond our control. We should remember that Allah sees all our efforts no matter where we are or who we are with!
