Choosing Milk Over Wine - A Sign of Guidance

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was presented with two cups, one of wine and one of milk, and he chose the milk. This showed that he was guided to the right path and if he had chosen the wine, his followers would have gone astray.

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "On the night on which he was taken on the Night Journey (Al-Isra'), two cups, of wine and milk, were brought to the Messenger of Allah SAW. He looked at them and chose the milk. Jibril, peace be upon him, said to him: 'Praise be to Allah Who has guided you to the Fitrah. If you have chosen the wine, your Ummah would have gone astray'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Choose what is good over what is bad
EXPLANATIONS:
On the night of Al-Isra', Prophet Muhammad PBUH was presented with two cups; one filled with wine and another filled with milk. He chose to drink from the cup containing milk instead of wine which showed that he was guided to the right path or Fitrah. Jibril then praised Allah for guiding him in this decision as if he had chosen otherwise his Ummah would have gone astray. This Hadith teaches us that we should always choose what is good over what is bad as it will lead us on a righteous path in life. We should also be thankful for being guided by Allah towards righteousness even when faced with difficult decisions in life.
