Permissibility of Medical Blood Extraction

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) paid a person for medically extracting his blood, indicating that it is permissible.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: Once the Prophet got his blood out (medically) and paid that person who had done it. If it had been illegal, the Prophet would not have paid him.
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ ـ هُوَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ـ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قَالَ احْتَجَمَ النَّبِيُّ وَأَعْطَى الَّذِي حَجَمَهُ، وَلَوْ كَانَ حَرَامًا لَمْ يُعْطِهِ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrated by Ibn 'Abbas tells us that medical extraction of blood is permissible. This is evidenced by the fact that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ paid a person for doing this to him. This indicates that it was not considered illegal or haram in Islam, and thus can be done without any fear of committing a sin. It also shows us the importance of seeking medical help when needed, as well as being generous and kind to those who help us in our time of need. Furthermore, this hadith teaches us to be mindful and respectful towards our bodies and health, taking care not to harm ourselves or neglect our physical wellbeing.
