Sahih al-Bukhari 2104 (Book 34, Hadith 57) #2020
Selling Instead of Wearing

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) sent a silken two-piece garment to 'Umar and advised him to sell it instead of wearing it as it is worn by those who have no share in the Hereafter.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: Once the Prophet sent to 'Umar a silken two-piece garment, and when he saw 'Umar wearing it, he said to him, "I have not sent it to you to wear. It is worn by him who has no share in the Hereafter, and I have sent it to you so that you could benefit by it (ie sell it).

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful of your actions, Strive for good deeds

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates an incident between the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his companion, Umar. The Prophet ﷺ sent a silken two-piece garment to Umar, but he advised him not to wear it as it is worn by those who have no share in the Hereafter. He suggested that Umar should benefit from this gift by selling it instead. This hadith teaches us that we should be mindful of our actions and be careful about what we wear or do because our deeds will determine our fate in the afterlife. We should strive for good deeds so that we can attain success in both this world and hereafter.
