Sahih al-Bukhari 2097 (Book 34, Hadith 50) #2013
Kindness of the Prophet (ﷺ)

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) showed kindness to Jabir by helping him with his camel and giving him advice on marriage. He also bought the camel from Jabir for one Uqiya of gold and gave it back to him with its price.

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: I was with the Prophet in a Ghazwa (Military Expedition) and my camel was slow and exhausted. The Prophet came up to me and said, "O Jabir". I replied, "Yes?" He said, "What is the matter with you?" I replied, "My camel is slow and tired, so I am left behind". So, he got down and poked the camel with his stick and then ordered me to ride. I rode the camel and it became so fast that I had to hold it from going ahead of Allah's Messenger . He then asked me, have you got married?" I replied in the affirmative. He asked, "A virgin or a matron?" I replied, "I married a matron". The Prophet said, "Why have you not married a virgin, so that you may play with her and she may play with you?" Jabir replied, "I have sisters (young in age) so I liked to marry a matron who could collect them all and comb their hair and look after them". The Prophet said, "You will reach, so when you have arrived (at home), I advise you to associate with your wife (that you may have an intelligent son)". Then he asked me, "Would you like to sell your camel?" I replied in the affirmative and the Prophet purchased it for one Uqiya of gold. Allah's Messenger reached before me and I reached in the morning, and when I went to the mosque, I found him at the door of the mosque. He asked me, "Have you arrived just now?" I replied in the affirmative. He said, "Leave your camel and come into (the mosque) and pray two rak'at". I entered and offered the prayer. He told Bilal to weigh and give me one Uqiya of gold. So Bilal weighed for me fairly and I went away. The Prophet sent for me and I thought that he would return to me my camel which I hated more than anything else. But the Prophet said to me, "Take your camel as well as its price".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the kindness of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ towards his companion, Jabir bin 'Abdullah. When he saw that Jabir's camel was slow and tired, he got down and poked it with his stick so that it could move faster. He then asked if he was married, to which Jabir replied in the affirmative. The Prophet ﷺ then asked if he had married a virgin or a matron, to which Jabir replied that he had married a matron because she could look after his young sisters better than a virgin would have been able to do so. The Prophet ﷺ then advised him to associate with his wife in order for them to have an intelligent son together. Lastly, when they reached their destination, the Prophet ﷺ bought Jabir's camel from him for one Uqiyah of gold and gave it back along with its price as well as two rak'at prayer instructions before leaving. This hadith teaches us about how kind and generous our beloved prophet Muhammad ﷺ was towards others even though they were not related by blood or family ties; this is an example we should all strive towards emulating in our own lives today! It also teaches us about how important marriage is in Islam; we should always strive for marriages based on mutual love and respect rather than just physical attraction alone! Lastly, this hadith shows us how important it is for parents to be involved in their children’s upbringing; having both parents present can help create an environment where children can grow up into intelligent adults who are capable of making wise decisions later on in life!
