Permissibility of Seeking Bounty During Hajj Season

SUMMARY: The hadith explains how the verse 2:198 of the Quran was revealed, which states that it is permissible to seek bounty from Allah during Hajj season.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: 'Ukaz, Majanna and Dhul-Majaz were markets in the Pre-Islamic period. When the people embraced Islam they considered it a sin to trade there. So, the following Holy Verse came:-- 'There is no harm for you if you seek of the bounty of your Lord (Allah) in the Hajj season". (2:198) Ibn 'Abbas recited it like this.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains how the verse 2:198 of the Quran was revealed, which states that it is permissible to seek bounty from Allah during Hajj season. Before embracing Islam, there were three markets in Arabia called Ukaz, Majanna and Dhul-Majaz where people used to trade goods and services. After embracing Islam, people considered trading in these markets as a sin and so this verse was revealed as an allowance for them to seek bounties from Allah during Hajj season. This hadith teaches us that we should not consider something as a sin if it has been allowed by God in His holy book - The Quran. We should also be thankful for all the bounties given by God and use them wisely according to His teachings.
