The Likeness of Taking Back Gifts

SUMMARY: Taking back a gift is like a dog that vomits and goes back to its vomit.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas that the Messenger of Allah said: "The likeness of the one who takes back his gift is that of a dog which vomits, then goes back to its vomit". (One of the narrators) Al-Awza'i said: "I heard him narrating this Hadith to 'Ata bin Abi Rabah".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be generous with your gifts; do not take them back once you have given them away; respect others; do not take advantage of people's goodwill; show kindness in your relationships with others.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about the importance of giving gifts and not taking them back. It compares someone who takes back their gift to a dog that vomits and then goes back to its vomit. This means that it is not only disgusting but also shameful for someone to take something they have given away as a gift. The Prophet Muhammad was teaching us here the importance of generosity and kindness in our relationships with others, as well as how we should be careful not to take advantage of people or make them feel embarrassed or ashamed by taking something we have given away from them. We should always strive to be generous with our gifts and never take them back once they are given away.
