Sunan an-Nasai 489 (Book 5, Hadith 42) #15097
Changing the Direction of Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was commanded to change the direction of prayer from Jerusalem to Mecca.

It was narrated that Al-Bara bin 'Azib said: "The Messenger of Allah came to Al-Madinah and prayed toward Bait Al-Maqdis for sixteen months, then he was commanded to face towards the Ka'bah. A man who had prayed with the Prophet passed by some of the Ansar and said: 'I bear witness that the Messenger of Allah has been commanded to face towards the Ka'bah' so they turned to face the Ka'bah".

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey Allah's commands , Spread good news whenever you hear it .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a momentous event in Islamic history when the Prophet Muhammad was commanded by Allah to change the direction of prayer from Jerusalem to Mecca. This event is known as Qiblatain which means ‘two directions’ in Arabic. Before this commandment, Muslims used to pray towards Bait Al-Maqdis or Jerusalem for sixteen months but then they were told by Allah through His messenger that they should now face towards Ka'bah in Mecca while praying. When one of the companions heard this news he went and informed other people about it and they all changed their direction accordingly. This hadith teaches us that we must always obey Allah's commands no matter how difficult it may seem at first because He knows what is best for us and will never lead us astray. It also teaches us that we should spread good news whenever we hear it so others can benefit from it too.
