Sahih Muslim 1124 (Book 13, Hadith 142) #9781
The Fasting of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) on 'Arafa Day

SUMMARY: People had doubts about the fasting of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) on the day of 'Arafa, but his wife Maimuna sent him a cup of milk and he drank it while people were watching.

Kuraib, the freed slave of Ibn 'Abbas (Allah be pleased with him), reported from Maimuna, the wife of the Messenger of Allah , that people had doubt about the fasting of Allah's Messenger on the day of 'Arafa. Maimuna sent him a cup of milk and he was halting at a place and he drank it and the people were seeing him.

QUICK LESSONS:
Have faith in Allah SWT and His Messenger; Trusting in one's actions; Keep fasts during Ramadan when possible; Respect for spouses.

EXPLANATIONS:
On the day of 'Arafa, some people had doubts about whether or not Prophet Muhammad was fasting. In response to this doubt, his wife Maimuna sent him a cup of milk to drink while he was halting at a place. This showed that he was indeed fasting as drinking milk would break one's fast. This hadith teaches us that we should always have faith in our beloved prophet and trust in his actions without questioning them. We should also be mindful that even though we are allowed to break our fast during Ramadan for certain reasons such as illness or travel, we should still strive to keep our fasts whenever possible as it is an act greatly rewarded by Allah SWT.
