Sahih Muslim 1123d (Book 13, Hadith 141) #9780
The Prophet's Action Removes Doubts

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) drank milk while he was at 'Arafa, and this action of his removed the doubts of some of his companions about fasting on that day.

Umm al-Fadl (Allah be pleased with her) is reported to have said that some people among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah were in doubt about fasting on the day of 'Arafa and we were with him on that day. I (Umm al-Fadl) sent him a cup of milk and he was halting at 'Arafa, and he drank that.

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek knowledge from reliable sources, Respect those more knowledgeable than oneself

EXPLANATIONS:
Umm al-Fadl was one of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. She reported that some people among the companions were in doubt about fasting on the day of 'Arafa. To remove their doubts, she sent a cup of milk to him while he was halting at 'Arafa and he drank it. This action showed them that it is permissible to not fast on this day if one wishes to do so. This hadith teaches us that we should always seek knowledge from reliable sources and not rely solely on our own opinions or assumptions when it comes to religious matters as they can lead us astray from what is right and true. It also teaches us that we should be respectful towards those who are more knowledgeable than us in religious matters as they can help guide us in our faith journey.
