Sahih Muslim 1037a (Book 12, Hadith 126) #9525
The Blessing of Insight in Religion

SUMMARY: Allah bestows insight in religion to those He intends to give goodness, and it is better to not beg for things as it will not lead to satisfaction.

Mu'awiya said: Be cautious about ahadith except those which were current during the reign of Umar, for he exhorted people to fear Allah, the Exalted and Majestic. I heard the Messenger of Allah as saying: He upon whom Allah intends to bestow goodness, He confers upon him an insight in religion; and I heard the Messenger of Allah as saying: I am the treasurer. To one whom I give out of (my own) sweet will, he would be blessed in that, but he whom I give (yielding to) his constant begging and for his covetousness is like one who would eat, but would not be satisfied.

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive towards what you want without being too greedy or desperate; Show gratitude towards God's blessings; Exercise moderation when asking for something; Follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the blessing of insight in religion that Allah bestows upon those whom He intends to give goodness. It also warns against begging for things, as this will not lead to satisfaction. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that he was like a treasurer, and whoever he gave something out of his own sweet will would be blessed with it, but whoever begged him constantly out of covetousness would never be satisfied. This teaches us that we should strive for what we want without being too greedy or desperate for it, as this can lead us away from the blessings of Allah. We should also remember that whatever good comes our way is from Allah alone and we should thank Him for His generosity and mercy towards us.
