Sahih Muslim 1036 (Book 12, Hadith 125) #9524
The Benefits of Spending Surplus Wealth

SUMMARY: It is better to spend your surplus wealth, but it is not wrong to withhold money for necessary living expenses. It is important to start charity with those who are dependent on you and it is better to give than receive.

Abu Umama reported Allah's Messenger as saying: O son of Adam, it is better for you if you spend your surplus (wealth), but if you withhold it, it is evil for you. There is (however) no reproach for you (if you withhold means necessary) for a living. And begin (charity) with your dependents; and the upper hand is better than the lower hand.

QUICK LESSONS:
Spend your surplus wealth , Begin charity with dependents , Give away more than you receive .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith encourages us to be generous with our wealth and spend our surplus on others. We should begin by helping those who are dependent on us, such as family members or close friends. The Prophet Muhammad also taught that giving away money was more rewarding than receiving it, so we should strive to be generous whenever possible. Additionally, we should not feel guilty about withholding money for necessary living expenses; this too can be a form of charity if done out of necessity rather than greed or selfishness.
