Sahih Muslim 670a (Book 5, Hadith 358) #8669
Smiling in the Face of Ignorance

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to sit with his companions and talk about matters of the past, while he only smiled.

Simak b. Harb reported: I said to Jabir b. Samura: Did you sit in the company of the Messenger of Allah (may peace he upon him)? He said: Yes, very often. He (the Holy Prophet) used to sit at the place where he observed the morning or dawn prayer till the sun rose or when it had risen; he would stand, and they (his Companions) would talk about matters (pertaining to the days) of ignorance, and they would laugh (on these matters) while (the Holy Prophet) only smiled.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of being patient and understanding when faced with ignorance or situations that may be difficult to comprehend. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was known for his patience and kindness even when faced with difficult circumstances or people who did not understand his teachings. He would often sit with his companions and listen as they talked about matters from their days before Islam; instead of getting angry or frustrated he would simply smile at them in a way that showed understanding and compassion for their situation. This hadith teaches us that we should always strive to show patience and understanding even when faced with ignorance or difficult situations; it is important to remember that everyone has a different perspective on life which should be respected even if we do not agree with it.
