Sahih Muslim 60a (Book 1, Hadith 121) #7386
The Consequences of Calling Someone an Unbeliever

SUMMARY: It is wrong to call someone an unbeliever, as it can have negative consequences for both parties.

It is reported on the authority of Ibn 'Umar that the Apostle (may peace and blessings be upon him) observed: When a man calls his brother an unbeliever, it returns (at least) to one of them.

QUICK LESSONS:
Think carefully before making accusations against others .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith warns against the dangers of calling someone an unbeliever. It is reported on the authority of Ibn 'Umar that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said that when a person calls another person an unbeliever, it will have a negative consequence for at least one of them. This means that even if one person is right in their accusation and the other person actually is an unbeliever, there will still be a negative consequence for either or both people involved in this situation. Therefore, it is important to think carefully before making such accusations and to remember that there are always consequences for our words and actions.
