The Strength of Allegiance

SUMMARY: The Prophet refused to cancel the pledge of allegiance given by a bedouin, and compared Medina to a furnace that expels its impurities and brightens and clears its good.

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: A bedouin gave the Pledge of allegiance to Allah's Messenger for Islam. Then the bedouin got fever at Medina, came to Allah's Messenger and said, "O Allah's Messenger ! Cancel my Pledge," But Allah's Apostle refused. Then he came to him (again) and said, "O Allah's Messenger ! Cancel my Pledge". But the Prophet refused Then he came to him (again) and said, "O Allah's Messenger ! Cancel my Pledge". But the Prophet refused. The bedouin finally went out (of Medina) whereupon Allah's Messenger said, "Medina is like a pair of bellows (furnace): It expels its impurities and brightens and clears its good.

QUICK LESSONS:
Keep your promises made with Allah's Messenger for Islam
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the strength of allegiance. It tells us that when someone gives their pledge or promise to Allah's Messenger for Islam, it should not be taken lightly. Even if they are in difficulty or sickness they should not try to break their promise as it is an important part of being a Muslim. Furthermore, the Prophet compared Medina to a furnace which expels its impurities and brightens and clears its good. This means that even though there may be bad people in Medina who break their promises or do wrong things, those people will eventually leave while the good people will stay behind and make it better.
