Blessing of the Prophet (PBUH) on a Young Child

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) blessed a young child and invoked Allah for him, and the child's family would sacrifice one sheep on his behalf.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Hisham: who was born during the lifetime of the Prophet that his mother, Zainab bint Humaid had taken him to Allah's Messenger and said, "O Allah's Messenger ! Take his Pledge of allegiance (for Islam)". The Prophet said, "He ('Abdullah bin Hisham) is a little child," and passed his hand over his head and invoked Allah for him'.Abdullah bin Hisham used to slaughter one sheep as a sacrifice on behalf of all of his family.
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ ـ هُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ ـ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عَقِيلٍ، زُهْرَةُ بْنُ مَعْبَدٍ عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ، وَكَانَ، قَدْ أَدْرَكَ النَّبِيَّ وَذَهَبَتْ بِهِ أُمُّهُ زَيْنَبُ ابْنَةُ حُمَيْدٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ بَايِعْهُ‏.‏ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ‏ "‏ هُوَ صَغِيرٌ ‏"‏ فَمَسَحَ رَأْسَهُ وَدَعَا لَهُ، وَكَانَ يُضَحِّي بِالشَّاةِ الْوَاحِدَةِ عَنْ جَمِيعِ أَهْلِهِ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the blessing of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ upon a young child named 'Abdullah bin Hisham. His mother brought him to the Prophet ﷺ and asked for his pledge of allegiance to Islam. The Prophet ﷺ said that he was too young and passed his hand over his head while invoking Allah for him. As an act of gratitude towards this blessing, 'Abdullah bin Hisham's family would sacrifice one sheep as a sign of thanksgiving every year. This hadith teaches us that we should be grateful for any blessings bestowed upon us by Allah or His Messenger ﷺ and show our appreciation through acts such as sacrificing animals or giving charity in order to gain more blessings from Him. It also shows us how important it is to bring our children up with Islamic values from an early age so they can grow up with strong faith in God Almighty.
