Sahih al-Bukhari 7209 (Book 93, Hadith 69) #6924
The Strength of Allegiance in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) refused to cancel the pledge of a bedouin who had given his allegiance to Islam, and compared Medina to a furnace that expels its impurities and brightens and clears its good.

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: A bedouin gave the Pledge of allegiance to Allah's Messenger for Islam and the bedouin got a fever where upon he said to the Prophet "Cancel my Pledge". But the Prophet refused. He came to him (again) saying, "Cancel my Pledge'. But the Prophet refused. Then (the bedouin) left (Medina). Allah's Apostle said: "Medina is like a pair of bellows (furnace): It expels its impurities and brightens and clears its good".

QUICK LESSONS:
Remain loyal even if things get difficult or challenging .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the strength of allegiance in Islam. It is narrated by Jabir bin 'Abdullah that a bedouin gave his pledge for Islam to Allah's Messenger, but when he got fever he asked the Prophet to cancel it. However, the Prophet refused and told him that Medina is like a pair of bellows which expels its impurities and brightens and clears its good. This teaches us that once we have pledged our allegiance for something or someone, we should not back out from it no matter what happens as this will bring dishonor upon us. We should remain loyal even if things get difficult or challenging as this is what brings honor upon us in society.
