Seeking Refuge From Allah

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to seek refuge from Allah from various afflictions and punishments.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: Allah's Prophet used to say, "O Allah! I seek refuge with You from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and geriatric old age, and seek refuge with You from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge with You from the afflictions of life and death".
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي قَالَ، سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ يَقُولُ كَانَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ، وَالْجُبْنِ وَالْهَرَمِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَالْمَمَاتِ

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Anas bin Malik speaks of the Prophet Muhammad's supplication to Allah for protection from various afflictions, such as incapacity, laziness, cowardice, old age, punishment of the grave and life and death. This hadith serves as a reminder that we should always turn to Allah in times of difficulty or distress. We should ask Him for help in all matters of our lives; whether it be physical or spiritual. It also teaches us that we should not take our lives for granted but rather strive to make the most out of it by seeking His guidance at every step. Furthermore, this hadith encourages us to remain humble before Him even when faced with difficult situations because He is the only one who can provide true relief from any kind of suffering or hardship.
