Wearing Rings According to the Prophet's Example

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ threw away his golden ring and wore a silver one when he saw people wearing similar rings.

Narrated 'Abdullah: Allah's Messenger wore a gold or silver . ring and placed its stone towards the palm of his hand. The people also started wearing gold rings like it, but when the Prophet saw them wearing such rings, he threw away that golden ring and then wore a silver ring.
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي نَافِعٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ اتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ، وَجَعَلَ فَصَّهُ مِمَّا يَلِي كَفَّهُ، فَاتَّخَذَهُ النَّاسُ، فَرَمَى بِهِ، وَاتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ وَرِقٍ أَوْ فِضَّةٍ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the example of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in regards to wearing rings. It is narrated by Abdullah that Allah's Messenger ﷺ wore a gold or silver ring with its stone facing towards his palm. When people started wearing similar rings, he threw away his golden ring and replaced it with a silver one. This hadith teaches us that we should follow the example of our beloved prophet ﷺ in all aspects of life including how we dress and accessorize ourselves. We should not be influenced by what others are doing but instead strive to emulate our beloved prophet ﷺ as much as possible.

The values taught in this hadith include following the sunnah of our beloved prophet ﷺ, being humble and not being influenced by what others are doing or wearing. We should strive to be modest in all aspects of life including how we dress ourselves and accessorize ourselves according to Islamic teachings rather than following trends or fashions set by society at large.
