Prohibiting Shooting of Confined Animals

SUMMARY: The Prophet has forbidden the shooting of tied or confined animals.

Narrated Hisham bin Zaid: Anas and I went to Al-Hakam bin Aiyub. Anas saw some boys shooting at a tied hen. Anas said, "The Prophet has forbidden the shooting of tied or confined animals".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، قَالَ دَخَلْتُ مَعَ أَنَسٍ عَلَى الْحَكَمِ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ، فَرَأَى غِلْمَانًا ـ أَوْ فِتْيَانًا ـ نَصَبُوا دَجَاجَةً يَرْمُونَهَا‏.‏ فَقَالَ أَنَسٌ نَهَى النَّبِيُّ أَنْ تُصْبَرَ الْبَهَائِمُ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is narrated by Hisham bin Zaid and it talks about the prohibition of shooting at tied or confined animals. Anas and Hisham went to Al-Hakam bin Aiyub where they saw some boys shooting at a hen that was tied up. Anas then reminded them that the Prophet has forbidden such an act. This hadith teaches us to be kind and compassionate towards all living creatures as Allah has created them with dignity and respect. We should not cause any harm to any living creature as it is against Islamic teachings.
