Sahih al-Bukhari 416 (Book 8, Hadith 66) #410
Spitting Etiquette During Prayer

SUMMARY: When praying, one should not spit in front of them or to their right side as there is an angel present. Instead, they should spit on their left side or under their left foot and bury it.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Prophet said, "If anyone of you stands for prayer, he should not spit in front of him because in prayer he is speaking in private to Allah and he should not spit on his right as there is an angel, but he can spit either on his left or under his left foot and bury it (ie expectoration).

QUICK LESSONS:

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the etiquette of spitting during prayer. It is narrated by Abu Huraira that Prophet Muhammad said that when one stands for prayer, they should not spit in front of them because they are speaking privately to Allah. They also should not spit on their right side as there is an angel present. Instead, they can either spit on their left side or under their left foot and then bury it with soil or sand. This hadith teaches us the importance of respecting our surroundings while we are praying and how we must be mindful of our actions even when no one else is around to see them as Allah sees all things. It also reminds us that angels are always present around us so we must be careful about what we do and say at all times.
