Riyad as-Salihin 1609 (Book 17, Hadith 99) #38098
Punishment by Fire

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) sent a group of people on an expedition and instructed them to burn two people belonging to the Quraish if they found them. However, he later clarified that it is Allah Alone Who punishes with the fire, so they should put them to death instead.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah sent us on an expedition and said to us, "If you find so- and-so (he named two persons belonging to the Quraish) commit them to the fire". When we were on the verge of departure, he said to us, "I ordered you to burn so-and-so, but it is Allah Alone Who punishes with the fire. So if you find them put them to death". Al- Bukhari.

QUICK LESSONS:
Leave justice in God's Hands , Follow instructions given by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ .

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah tells us about an expedition that was sent out by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. He instructed them to burn two people from the Quraish tribe if they found them. However, when they were about to leave, he clarified that it is only Allah who has the power of punishing with fire and thus told them to put those two persons to death instead. This hadith teaches us that we should not take matters into our own hands but rather leave justice in God's hands as He is ultimately responsible for punishing wrongdoers according to His will and wisdom. It also reminds us of how merciful and forgiving our Lord is as He does not punish immediately but gives everyone a chance for repentance before meting out punishment in accordance with His divine justice system.
