Riyad as-Salihin 1588 (Book 17, Hadith 78) #38077
The Consequences of Arrogance and False Oaths

SUMMARY: Allah will not speak to, look at, or purify those who are arrogant, boastful of their favors done to others, and take false oaths while selling goods.

Abu Dharr (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet observed: "There are three (types of) people to whom Allah will neither speak on the Day of Resurrection nor look at them nor purify them, and they will have a painful chastisement". The Messenger of Allah repeated it three times. Abu Dharr (May Allah be pleased with him) remarked: "They are ruined. Who are they, O Messenger of Allah?" Upon this, the Messenger of Allah said, "One who lets down his lower garments (below his ankles) out of arrogance, one who boasts of his favours done to another; and who sells his goods by taking a false oath". Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the consequences of arrogance and taking false oaths. It was narrated by Abu Dharr that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that there are three types of people whom Allah will neither speak to nor look at on the Day of Resurrection nor purify them. These people are those who let down their lower garments out of arrogance, boast about their favors done to others, and sell goods by taking a false oath. This means that these actions have serious consequences in the afterlife as they will be punished for it with a painful chastisement from Allah. Therefore it is important for us to remember not to be arrogant or take false oaths in our daily lives as this could lead us astray from our faith and cause us harm in both this life and the next life. We should also strive to be humble in all aspects so we can gain favor from Allah on Judgment Day.
