The Consequences of Breaking Covenants and Unfair Practices

SUMMARY: Allah will contend against those who break their covenant, sell a free man as a slave and do not pay the wages of a workman.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet said, "Allah, the Exalted, says: 'I will contend on the Day of Resurrection against three (types of) people: One who makes a covenant in My Name and then breaks it; one who sells a free man as a slave and devours his price; and one who hires a workman and having taken full work from him, does not pay him his wages"'. Al- Bukhari.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the consequences of breaking covenants and unfair practices. It was narrated by Abu Hurairah may Allah be pleased with him, that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that Allah will contend on the Day of Resurrection against three types of people; one who makes a covenant in His Name and then breaks it, one who sells a free man as a slave and devours his price, and one who hires a workman but does not pay him his wages. This hadith teaches us to keep our promises no matter what because if we break them we will face consequences from Allah on the Day of Judgement. We should also treat others fairly by paying them for their services or goods they provide us with.
