Optional Prayer Between Adhan and Iqamah

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that there is an optional prayer between the call to prayer and the actual prayer.

'Abdullah bin Mughaffal (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah said, "There is a Salat (prayer) between every Adhan and Iqamah; there is a Salat between every Adhan and Iqamah". (While saying the same for the) third time (he added), "It is for him who desires (to perform it)". Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Take advantage of opportunities for worshiping Allah .

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith of Abdullah bin Mughaffal teaches us about the importance of performing optional prayers between the call to prayer and the actual prayer. This hadith was narrated by Abdullah bin Mughaffal who was a companion of Prophet Muhammad. He reported that Prophet Muhammad said “There is a Salat between every Adhan and Iqamah; there is a Salat between every Adhan and Iqamah”. He repeated this three times before adding “It is for him who desires” which means it is up to each individual if they want to perform this optional prayer or not. This hadith encourages us to take advantage of any opportunity we have for worshiping Allah as it can bring us closer to Him. It also teaches us about patience as we should wait until after hearing both calls before starting our prayers in order for them to be accepted by Allah.
