Sahih al-Bukhari 3883 (Book 63, Hadith 108) #3711
The Prophet's Sorrow for His Uncle

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) expresses his sorrow for his uncle Abu Talib, who was not able to benefit from the Prophet's intercession and is in a shallow fire.

Narrated Al-Abbas bin 'Abdul Muttalib: That he said to the Prophet "You have not been of any avail to your uncle (Abu Talib) (though) by Allah, he used to protect you and used to become angry on your behalf". The Prophet said, "He is in a shallow fire, and had It not been for me, he would have been in the bottom of the (Hell) Fire".

QUICK LESSONS:
Do good deeds and follow Allah’s commands.
EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Al-Abbas bin 'Abdul Muttalib tells us about the sorrow of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for his uncle Abu Talib. Despite Abu Talib protecting and defending the Prophet ﷺ, he was not able to benefit from the intercession of the Prophet ﷺ on Judgment Day. This hadith teaches us that even if we are close to someone, it does not guarantee that they will be saved from punishment in this life or in the hereafter. We must strive to do good deeds and follow Allah’s commands so that we can be saved on Judgment Day.
