Building the Wall Around the Ka'ba

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) did not have a wall around the Ka'ba and 'Umar built it, and Ibn Az-Zubair later raised its height.

Narrated 'Amr bin Dinar and 'Ubaidullah bin Abi Yazid: In the lifetime of the Prophet there was no wall around the Ka'ba and the people used to pray around the Ka'ba till 'Umar became the Caliph and he built the wall around it'.Ubaidullah further said, "Its wall was low, so Ibn Az-Zubair built it".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، وَعُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي يَزِيدَ، قَالاَ لَمْ يَكُنْ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ حَوْلَ الْبَيْتِ حَائِطٌ، كَانُوا يُصَلُّونَ حَوْلَ الْبَيْتِ، حَتَّى كَانَ عُمَرُ، فَبَنَى حَوْلَهُ حَائِطًا ـ قَالَ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ ـ جَدْرُهُ قَصِيرٌ، فَبَنَاهُ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
During the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, there was no wall around the Ka’ba in Makkah. It was only when Umar became Caliph that he built a wall around it. Later on, Ibn Az-Zubair raised its height. This hadith shows us how important it is to respect places of worship and take care of them properly so that they can be preserved for future generations to come. It also teaches us about respecting our leaders and following their instructions as long as they are within Islamic boundaries.
