The Sunnah of Witr Prayer

SUMMARY: Witr is not obligatory, but it is a Sunnah that was established by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

It was narrated that 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: Witr is not a must, but it is a Sunnah that was established by the Messenger of Allah .
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ الْأَوْدِيُّ، أَنْبَأَنَا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ ضَمْرَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ الْوَتْرُ لَيْسَ بِحَتْمٍ وَلَكِنَّهُ سُنَّةٌ سَنَّهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏.‏
