Resolve disputes according to Islamic teachings; Punish wrongdoers; Follow justice and fairness; Respect authority figures such as Uthman & Ali Bin Abi Talib; Follow Prophet Muhammad's teachings on qisas/retribution .

This hadith narrates an incident where two people, Yuhannas and Safiyyah were in dispute over a child's paternity. The dispute was referred to Uthman who then referred it to Ali bin Abi Talib for resolution. Ali bin Abi Talib passed judgement according to what Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught which was that the child belongs to its mother's husband and both parties should receive fifty lashes each as punishment for their actions. This hadith teaches us about how disputes should be resolved in accordance with Islamic teachings which emphasize justice and fairness for all parties involved while also punishing those who have committed wrongdoings such as zina or adultery. It also teaches us about qisas or retribution which is an important concept in Islam whereby punishments are meted out based on one's actions so as not only punish wrongdoers but also serve as a deterrent against future wrongdoing by others.
