Swearing by Fathers Forbidden

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade swearing by one's father.

It was narrated that ʼUmar رضي الله عنه said: The Messenger of Allah heard me swearing an oath by my father and said: "Allah forbids you to swear by your fathers"'.Umar said: By Allah, I never swore by my father after that, whether saying it myself or narrating what someone else had said.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عُمَرَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَمِعَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَأَنَا أَحْلِفُ، بِأَبِي فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَنْهَاكُمْ أَنْ تَحْلِفُوا بِآبَائِكُمْ قَالَ عُمَرُ فَوَاللَّهِ مَا حَلَفْتُ بِهَا بَعْدُ ذَاكِرًا وَلَا آثِرًا‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of respecting one's parents and not taking their name in vain. It was narrated that Umar said that the Messenger of Allah heard him swearing an oath by his father and said "Allah forbids you to swear by your fathers." Umar then vowed never to swear by his father again whether saying it himself or narrating what someone else had said. This hadith teaches us that we should always respect our parents and not take their name in vain as it is forbidden in Islam. We should also be mindful of our words when speaking about others and avoid using profanity or vulgar language.
