Mercy and Parental Love

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was asked by some Bedouin people if he kissed his children, to which he replied yes. When they said they never kiss their children, the Prophet (PBUH) responded that Allah has taken away mercy from them.

It was narrated that Aisha, said: "Some Bedouin people came to the Prophet and said: 'Do you kiss your children?' He said: 'Yes'. He said: 'But we, by Allah, never kiss (our children)'. The Prophet said: 'What can I do if Allah has taken away mercy from you?'"
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ قَدِمَ نَاسٌ مِنَ الأَعْرَابِ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ـ ـ فَقَالُوا أَتُقَبِّلُونَ صِبْيَانَكُمْ قَالُوا نَعَمْ ‏.‏ فَقَالُوا لَكِنَّا وَاللَّهِ مَا نُقَبِّلُ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ـ ـ ‏ "‏ وَأَمْلِكُ أَنْ كَانَ اللَّهُ قَدْ نَزَعَ مِنْكُمُ الرَّحْمَةَ

It is narrated that a group of Bedouin people came to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and asked him if he kissed his children. He replied in the affirmative, but when they said that they never kiss their own children, the Prophet responded by saying that Allah has taken away mercy from them. This hadith serves as a reminder for parents to show love and compassion towards their offspring as it is an act of mercy from Allah himself. Furthermore, it also teaches us about how important it is to be merciful towards others even if we do not agree with their beliefs or practices.
