Sunan Ibn Majah 2875 (Book 24, Hadith 123) #32229
The Pledge of Allegiance to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the pledge of allegiance given by the believing women to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and how it was accepted without any physical contact.

'Aishah the wife of the Prophet said: "When the believing women emigrated to the Messenger of Allah , they would be tested in accordance with Allah’s saying: 'O Prophet! When believing women come to you to give you the pledge.’"60:12 'Aishah said: "Whoever among the believing women affirmed this, passed the test. When they affirmed that, the Messenger of Allah would say to them: 'Go, for you have given your pledge.’ No, by Allah! The hand of the Messenger of Allah never touched the hand of any woman, rather he accepted their pledge in words only"'.Aishah said: "By Allah, the Messenger of Allah did not demand of women (in their pledge) anything other than that which Allah had commanded, and the hand of the Messenger of Allah never touched the hand of a woman. He would say to them, when he had accepted their pledge: 'You have given your pledge,’ verbally".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about how believing women gave their pledge of allegiance to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It is narrated by Aisha, one of his wives. According to this hadith, when these women came forward and affirmed their faith in Allah and His Messenger, they were accepted as believers without any physical contact between them and the prophet. This shows that even though physical contact was not necessary for accepting a pledge from someone, it still held great importance in Islam. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us that we should always strive to follow Allah's commands and never demand anything more than what He has commanded us. Lastly, it also teaches us that we should always respect our elders regardless of gender or age.
