Sunan Ibn Majah 2876 (Book 24, Hadith 124) #32230
Gambling and Horse Racing

SUMMARY: Entering a horse in a race between two other horses is not considered gambling if the person does not know whether it will win, but it is considered gambling if the person is certain that it will win.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever enters a horse (in a race) between two other horses, not knowing whether it will win, that is not gambling. But whoever enters a horse (in race) between two other horses, certain that it will win, that is gambling".

QUICK LESSONS:
Put your trust in Allah SWT and accept whatever outcome comes from Him without being too confident of yourself.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that entering a horse in a race between two other horses is not considered gambling as long as we do not know whether or not our horse will win. However, if we are certain that our horse will win, then this would be considered gambling. This hadith teaches us to be humble and to accept whatever outcome comes from Allah SWT without being too confident of ourselves. We should also remember to always put our trust in Allah SWT and never rely on our own knowledge or certainty when making decisions.
