Sahih al-Bukhari 3324 (Book 59, Hadith 130) #3177
Keeping Dogs and its Impact on Reward

SUMMARY: Keeping a dog can reduce one's reward for good deeds, unless it is kept for the purpose of agriculture or protection of livestock.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger said, "If somebody keeps a dog, he loses one Qirat (of the reward) of his good deeds everyday, except if he keeps it for the purpose of agriculture or for the protection of livestock".
